Venus Retrograde:

Like all the planets, Venus has a retrograde period. Hers is approximately every 1.5 years. Venus is associated with Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. Venus enjoys the excesses and luxuries of life, and when she makes an aspect she can bring into focus areas related to relationship.

Within all things relationship there is the part that is I, the self, the next part that is ‘you’ or the partner and the part that is WE, what we have together. Venus can bring into focus any of these aspects of relationships. She also brings money, fashion, beautifying and comfort into the picture. This can relate to a business or romantic partner.

Ok so when is this retrograde and what does that mean for you?

Imagine that Venus is traveling from point A to point B, in this case from 25 degrees Libra to 10 degrees Scorpio. Then on October 6^th Venus appears to move backwards- retrograde, from 10 degrees Scorpio all the way back to 25 degrees Libra. On Nov 16, she will go forward again and Dec 17^th she is fully past these degrees onto 11 degrees Scorpio and beyond! So she is highly focused in this area, slowing down to make sure we take a good look at her in the areas of life she passes through in these particular degrees.

We have been in these degrees since September 3^rd, so think about what has been coming up for you related to relationships in the last month. These are the issues that Venus is going to sit on and return to long enough for you to hopefully understand its message and grow in that consciousness.

So think of this as a focused session, a time period to go through internal growth and understanding related to your relationships. Interestingly, this retrograde goes between two different signs so it will have sort of two different characters or focus points. Right now she is in Scorpio and will retro there, so issues related to relationships and money, sex, their family’s resources, religion or spiritual connection or even connection to the ancestors who have passed before you.

As Venus retrogrades it make an initial square to Mars. If you remember from a previous article, Mars was retrograde through the summer. This was meant to realign you with your life purpose and notice what has been a vampire to your energy that has kept you from being focused on your purpose on earth. Mars went through that process starting at 9 degrees Aquarius, went backwards, forward and is literally at that exact degree- 9 Aquarius for the last time, and it squares Venus right as she goes retro! Like in a relay Mars tags Venus saying okay your turn- now that you have gotten your energy and life in alignment, you need to get your relationships in alignment. If this happens to fall in your 6^th house, maybe the day to day organization of how you spend time with your partner needs to be adjusted, if it’s in 12^th house maybe the spiritual connection needs to be better aligned etc. I’ll talk more about houses later in the article.

Another aspect happening at this time is Venus is also squaring Lilith (which is right next to Mars). I think women’s sexual abuses will continue to rise to the surface. Publicly this means we will continue to see the impact socially and politically. However, on the personal level it likely means many will continue to be triggered and their own history of abuses they have tried to push back will refuse to go quietly into the night. Lilith wants her power and she deserves it and she will speak out about relational and sexual abuses until she is re-empowered. So if you are carrying a history of sexual abuse, as sadly most women are, this may be a process of coming to the surface and healing many of these deep wounds as well as seeing the impact it has had on your relationships.

Venus will then make a conjunction with Mercury on October 16 and 17^th  (around 8 degrees Scorpio). While you may have been feeling a lot of emotions around this retrograde, the mental understanding of what you’re feeling and why may not be so clear. This connection should help the mind better understand the nature of Venus’s message to you or help you to communicate your feelings to others. Then the following week, October 26-28^th, the Sun will conjunct Venus (around 2 degrees Scorpio), adding light and warmth to this process. This should really highlight what you need and give you some necessary clarity and direction. Like shining a flashlight directly on what she’s teaching you in Scorpio before moving to Libra. Knowing what house this is happening in is really helpful to understanding this for yourself as well as if you have any planets around these degrees.

 For the first half of November, Venus is in Libra retrograde. Here she is shifting from the deep, heavy topics of Scorpio to more focus on I-We balance, harmony and cooperation. Issues around self-identity and worth, getting lost in relationships and co-dependency will arise now. However, Libra doesn’t like to get too intense, especially in a conflict, so I expect the rate and intensity of conversations will die down. The focus is more on how do we create fairness, balance and win-win relationships. If you have any planets here it will be particularly poignant.

For those born from late 1980 through most of 1982 Pluto was right around 25 degrees Libra. What that means is this mini-generation will be activated to understand their relationship to power, control and their spiritual obligation to humanity. This is a generation’s consciousness expansion, like a software upgrade. Many will awaken to greater understanding of the impact of sexual traumas, the sexual perversions and disrespect towards women in our cultural norms, or other topics similar to this that were brought to light while Venus was just in Scorpio. Pornography, sex work, rape culture and toxic masculinity will become better understood by those who haven’t quite received this data yet if you are born in this generational period.  

Venus and Mars will make a trine aspect on Nov 9-11^th (around 26 degrees Libra), allowing our purpose and relationships to align and work in harmony and understanding with one another. The deeper issues dredged up while Venus is in Scorpio still need to be worked out and they’re coming back as she moves forward, but this is giving you a clear picture of how to have a cooperative relationship together.

Venus will station from its retrograde on Nov 16^th and begin its direct motion back through these degrees for the last time, finally completing the process Dec 17^th.

Here’s a quick guide to where Venus is retrograding in your chart:

1^st House- Your relationship to self and how you present yourself to the world, identity.

2^nd House- How you share resources and your relationship to money and things as a source of value.

3^rd House- Relationship to learning and how you communicate when you’re not in the “knowing” position.

4^th House- Relationship with mother, memories of early childhood and people you have past life connections with. Also, relationships and handling your emotions.

5^th House- Relationship to your hobbies and the people who make you laugh. How you experience fun and joy with others. Possibly also your relationship with children. If Venus is here you could get pregnant during this time if other chart indicators are present.

6^th House- How your relationships fit and support your daily routines and if they take over or are neglected. Relationship with co-workers as well.

7^th House- Business partnerships and the division of power (especially if in Scorpio), how you handle the balance of yourself within a romantic relationship- give too much, too little etc.

8^th House- Relationship to other people’s money, relationship to sex and power. Also this could be a time you connect with ancestors if you are at all psychically inclined.

9^th House- How wisdom plays a role in how you relate, are you acting from your highest self. Being a teacher, traveling and learning/teaching this way or your relationship with those from afar.

10^th House- How you project the image of your relationships to the world, how you’re seen by the public and within your career.

11^th House- Relationship to humanity, how you identify with and protect the greater whole. Political and social organizations and the relationships that stem from that.

12^th House- Relationship to your soul, higher calling or dysfunctions. Where you have secrets and blind spots. Areas you may feel shame.
