Saturn Return: 

Everyone has a Saturn return- it is when Saturn has made its 28 year trek through the entire astrology wheel and is back to where it was when you were born. This is generally for each person between 27-29 years old and then again just before 60 (55-58), furthermore, it might be extended if Saturn happens to also have a retrograde at this stop.

This marks the time of astrological adulthood. Saturn is the keeper of time and master of karma and at this moment you come in direct contact with the work or lack of work you have done through your own karmic debt. You will undoubtedly be called to pay your dues and learn your valuable lessons.

If Saturn makes any aspects in your chart, this is also indicative of a karma and you will have a sense of completion or full circle as you complete this important return.

The house Saturn is in gives you an idea of what area of life this aspect has to do with:

House 1- self, identity

House 2- self value and self-sufficiency (resources)

House 3 – Communication, studies

House 4- early childhood/mother

House 5- hobbies, friendships or light hearted romance

If your Saturn makes aspects to other planets it’s a particularly significant time.

Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars or the angles (ascendant-Descendant, IC-MC) are most prominent.

We all come here with karma to work out. It’s not all negative, you may owe to others who have helped you in past life lessons as well. It’s the accumulation of lessons that we need to acquire as we spend this time on earth and in body. Saturn is the school-teacher who is making sure you do not fall behind. In a way it’s the test, but then its also the intensive study to get you up to par if you’re failing. You won’t leave your Saturn return without some portion of the chapters you needed to learn. Often this is a time period that is difficult, or marked by major decisions. Sometimes marriage, pregnancy and/or divorce occurs at this time. Saturn will leave you wiser than he found you, so try to embrace the lessons instead of fight them. If you’re currently in a Saturn return (roughly ages 28 and 57) it is wise to have an astrological consultation to really understand the lessons you’re facing so you can more easily work with the energy at hand.

Another interesting point is AFTER the Saturn return when Saturn crosses your Ascendant and thus moves through the first house. There is a second reckoning that occurs here; you’ve learned the lesson now you on your own are completely responsible for the choices you make. This can be a time of feeling anxious or restricted, maybe so cautious you have trouble deciding or so cautious others find you a “wet blanket”. This is an important time for really putting into play the new learning and owning the next phase of your life. The closer this is to your Saturn return (such as if Saturn return is in 10, 11 or 12^th house) the more powerful the effect of this may be.
