Fire Element Series 1 of 4

FIRE - Element Series 1 of 4
Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

Hello, and welcome to the first of four Astrological Element Series. I am excited to share this with you, because I believe the elements are the most essential building block in astrology. It is my hope that the natural wisdom within your own intuitive mind grabs a hold of these concepts and is excitedly ready for the next series. I thank you in advance for reading and I look forward to your thoughts and questions!
All of the astrology signs and planets can be reduced to their element. Everything can be broken down to fire, water, earth and air.  These elements each speak to basic aspects in everyone’s makeup. How active or passive, steady or excitable, passionate or logical. In many ways its similar to acid or base. These are the basic building blocks of everything else. You are very capable of understanding these elements and in turn very capable of understanding astrology!

Eventually you’ll understand the slight variations in how the elements show up in the signs. For example, Aries is like an initial spark that gets the fire started, but without anything to connect with, it fizzles out quickly. Leo is more of a roaring fire that keeps you warm at night, whereas Sagittarius is more of torch or lantern, a fire that can be used to move and explore. Don’t worry about those details now, the more you fully understand the elements, the easier everything else will come naturally.

When I first started learning astrology I really focused on the elements and that made it much more accessible. I didn’t have to remember so many details and words that someone else told me or I read in a book. I could access my inner understanding of the elements and begin to have my own insights and deeper understanding of how they interact with one another. You already have elemental understanding- it is basic to human beings. In other words, you already have this knowledge, you’re just bringing it to the front of your mind and sitting with it in a new way.

So, onto the 4 part Element Series.

Of course, to please all my fire signs- you’re up first!

Fire is a dynamic, passionate element. It is active and initiating, meaning that when presented with a situation fire will tend to act first and think later. They are instinctive, intuitive and emotionally driven. They tend to fluctuate a bit in moods, like the ebb and flow of flames flickering, but they don’t stay too long in any emotional state. They feel things intensely, but move through it quickly. Its friendly and talkative, warm and easy to be attracted to. Fire draws your attention and so do people with planets in fire signs. Fires bring people together. They enable warmth and generosity as people offer to share their fire. If you’ve ever been camping or to a bonfire you know how integral the fire is to the experience of being joyful and feeling close with those around you.

Elemental Interactions:
Think of the actual element of fire to understand its interaction. It’s hot, it can/will burn uncontrollably unless in some type of containment. It can warm you up but can also burn you. The flames themselves dance all around, hence the active nature of fire. Think about the way fire interacts with other elements.

Fire and Water- Water can put the fire out, being a wet blanket and not allowing the fire to offer its dance of warmth and generosity to life. However, it can also serve as a safety for fire, being able to disarm and contain it. They have some intuitive understanding of one another and both relate to life from their instinctive and emotional responses. In that way they work well together. It all depends on the how much of each element and how it takes shape so that the fire doesn't get extinguished nor the water evaporated.

Fire and Earth- Some earth can serve as containment for fire, like the pot to boil water in or the hearth to warm the home. Earth is the ground with which the fire burns. Sometimes raging out of control, scorching the earth and burning its forests. Earth can obviously get forced into fast paced change by fire, burning down years of growth or hard work in a single spontaneous moment. In that way, earth doesn’t always feel safe and calm around fire.

Fire and Air- Fire needs air to burn. Mental ideas and innovation, which is air, act as a fuel source for the passion of fire. Good conversations and mental stimulation happen between the two. Warming the air and giving it life, it gladly feeds the fire which feels enlivened and active by the addition of the air quality. Air has an objective and fair quality to it, whereas, fire insists on the personal and subjective. This means fire wants you on their side, not logically understanding both parties- have my back it cries! Air doesn’t understand this personal need of fire, it wants to simply evaluate the situation fairly for all. This can leave fire feeling a bit cold as air prefers to stay neutral, being a part and parcel of everything.

Planets in Fire:

When a planet is in fire it is going to add energy, ability to initiate and often low patience to that planet. Some planets are more comfortable in fire signs than others. However, the best way to think of it is the energy of the planet revved up by the intensity of fire.

For example, the Moon (emotions) in a fire sign is going to add emotional intensity, emotional lability, hot temperedness or impatience, fast acting, passion and acting on one’s emotions.
Mercury, the mental/mind energy, in a fire sign will tend to be quick thinking, quick talking, idealistic, friendly and outgoing towards others.

Venus, the energy of relationships, is going to have the person move quickly, maybe even impulsively, in relationships. They may tend to jump in and jump out based on temporary emotions. Venus in a fire sign tends to encourage acting on passion not rules of dating and are often rash in decision making about relationships.

So, I hope that gives you a picture of the fire element.
  • When we look at a chart, we look at how many planets do you have in fire?
  • How many personal planets? (Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Mercury, Venus, Mars)

Thanks for reading, and remember to read the rest of the elemental series to have a balanced view of all.
